For more than three decades, I’ve served in government — with almost 21 of those years as a Director. In that time, I have learned that public service is not simply a job. It is a calling, a craft, and sometimes, a crucible. It is a space where purpose meets pressure, where ideals collide with realities, and where every decision, no matter how small, shapes lives.
Director’s Cut is my attempt to reflect on that continuing journey.
This blog is not about the policies I draft or the memos I sign. It is about the stories behind them — the human experience of being a public servant. The lessons I’ve learned, the mistakes that changed me, the people who inspired me, and the quiet moments that reminded me why this work still matters.
Here, I also hope to share my lifelong passions and advocacies:
Gender Equality
Because dignity, respect, and equal opportunity should never depend on gender. And because I have seen firsthand how biases — subtle or glaring — shape workplaces, leadership decisions, and daily interactions.
Life–Work Integration
Because “balance” is sometimes too idealistic for people who serve. Integration, however, is possible — and necessary — if we want to thrive rather than merely survive.
Mental Health and Wellness
Because behind every public servant is a human being carrying invisible loads.
And because burnout, anxiety, and compassion fatigue are real, even when not talked about openly in government corridors.
Director’s Cut will be my space to breathe, to reflect, and to offer insights drawn from years inside the bureaucracy — insights I hope resonate with fellow civil servants, leaders, advocates, and anyone navigating the complexities of work and life.
If you’ve ever wondered what it means to lead, to serve, to fail, to rise again, and to keep going despite everything…
you may find something familiar here.
